Outwood Academy Danum secures Gold School Games Mark
Outwood Academy Danum has been awarded the Gold School Games Mark in recognition of its approach to sport and healthy living.
The government-led award scheme assesses how effectively schools embed physical activity within their culture. Gold status recognises schools that consistently provide opportunities beyond the standard curriculum.
At Outwood Academy Danum, pupils can take part in a programme designed to accommodate different backgrounds, abilities and starting points. Alongside PE lessons, the academy runs a weekly calendar of free extracurricular activities, ranging from football to cheerleading.
Students can also complete nationally recognised Sports Leadership qualifications. The programmes give participants experience of organising sporting events, coaching younger pupils and leading community activities, while developing communication, confidence and teamwork skills.
Sally King, Head of PE at the school, said: “We are thrilled to receive the Gold School Games Mark, a well-earned badge of honour that reflects the genuine effort, teamwork, and determination present across the entire school community every day. Earning this award showcases the passion and hard work our PE team puts into expanding extra-curricular clubs, developing student leaders, and making sport inclusive and exciting for every student. As we focus on sustaining this momentum, I couldn't be prouder of everything we've achieved together!”
