May, O’Reilly, Collins: Doncaster Rovers boss Grant McCann provides mixed news on injury front
The latest Doncaster Rovers injury news ahead of the trip to MK Dons
Doncaster Rovers boss Grant McCann is hoping to have star striker Alfie May back at his disposal for this weekend’s away clash against MK Dons.
The experienced 33-year-old striker arrived on loan from Huddersfield Town in the summer and had featured in every league game this season up until Tuesday night when he was surprisingly left out of the matchday squad that lost 3-1 to Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

McCann revealed after the game that the striker had failed a late fitness test after sustaining a knock during his substitute cameo against Sheffield Wednesday, but in a positive update has since revealed that the injury isn’t anything too severe.
“We're hoping so,” McCann said when asked if May would be available for the trip to Stadium MK.
He added: “Yeah, I think we'll see how he is over the next day or two, but he's improving. Like I mentioned, he had a scan on his calf on Monday.
“The scan report came back saying all clear,) which is good, similar to Tom Nixon's a few weeks back. So it's just a matter of days really and when Alfie is feeling good, but he's okay.”
May’s likely return gives McCann further options in attack, with Will Keane starting both of the last two matches, and Brandon Hanlan also providing cover from the bench.
Soon that situation could be even more promising with James Collins edging closer to fitness.
“James Collins is very close,” McCann added.
“We'll see him probably back in our building after the international break.”
Elsewhere, James Husband is also ‘working hard’ on a return to fitness to provide further competition to a replenished defence which now finally has both first choice full-backs in Jamie Sterry and Jack Senior at its disposal after injuries earlier in the campaign.
However, in a more disappointing update further up the field, McCann explained that summer addition Tommi O’Reilly won’t be in contention to feature out wide for at least a few more weeks.
He said: “Tommy O'Reilly is going to be out for a bit.Unfortunately, he took a knock in training so we probably won't see him until after the international break, which is disappointing for us because Tommy was just getting to the levels that we wanted him to get to.”
