Isle quizzers raise over £1,000 for charities

The Epworth & Isle of Axholme Rotary Club held its annual charity quiz on Saturday in the Epworth Imperial Hall.

The event was attended by some 85 quizzers and £1,108 was raised to be shared equally between Arthritis Research UK and British Lung Foundation. Both these charities support research in the UK into these distressing chronic diseases.

The winning team Simon’s Angels were only one point ahead of Wendy’s House.

Spokesman John Lambert said: “Winners of the wooden spoon (Grumpy Old G***) received a bumper book of quiz questions and answers so better luck to them next year. There were no losers as all enjoyed the evening.”

Winners of guess the names for girl and boy bears received hampers.

Many raffle prizes donated by local businesses, friends and rotary members added to the event. A splendid buffet supper was provided by rotary members and friends.

Local businesses supporting were - Beauty shop, Westwoodside; The Curry Leaf; South Yorkshire Air Museum; Epworth Newsagents; Gravel greengrocers; Fountain Court Florist; Inside Out; Mojo Coffee Lounge; Wags and Whiskers; and The Willows Beauty Salon.
