Fly-tipping in Doncaster down, according to new figures

New statistics show a reduction in the amount of waste dumped in the city

Fly-tipping in Doncaster has been reduced, according to new figures.

The city has decreased fly-tipping incidents by 30.75% in 2025, the statistics show, as households are urged to recognise the impact of fly-tipping on the environment during Zero Waste Week.

There were over 1.26 million fly-tipping incidents last year, but research by Sell House Fast has highlighted the local authorities that have significantly reduced fly-tipping in their areas in 2024/25 compared with 2023/34.

According to the figures, Doncaster was ranked tenth in the regions that reported the biggest decrease in fly-tipping incidents.

The study found that the most common place for fly-tipping to occur was on highways (pavements and roads), which accounted for 37% of total incidents in 2024/25.

A third of all fly-tipping incidents equated to a small van load of rubbish while local authorities carried out 572,000 enforcement actions in 2024/25, an increase of 8% from the 530,000 in 2023/24.

The number of fixed penalty notices issued was 69,000 in 2024/25, an increase of 9% from 63,000 in 2023/24.

Jack Malnick, MD at Sell House Fast, said: “The increase in fly-tipping is not only damaging to the environment, but also an incredible eyesore for those living in the community.

““Homeowners can take simple steps to help prevent fly-tipping such as securing bin storage, as fly-tippers often target communal bins that are overflowing or easily accessible.

“Stay vigilant in your neighbourhood and report any suspicious activity or issues to help deter offenders.

“Know where to dispose of waste legally and encourage your neighbours to do the same.

“Finally, promote community awareness by encouraging recycling through local media, flyers, and community events.

“In short, fly-tipping can seriously undermine property values, leaving homeowners in distress.

“By taking proactive measures, utilising professional waste removal services, and doing your best to foster a positive community mindset about how to dispose of your waste correctly, you can swiftly tackle the challenges posed by fly-tipping.”
