Doncaster MP launches competition to create area's first ever coat of arms

The Labour MP has set up a contest for people to create a design

A Doncaster MP has set up a competition to create the area’s very first coat of arms.

Lee Pitcher, Labour MP for Doncaster East and the Isle of Axholme, has launched the contest calling on residents of all ages to design the first ever coat of arms for the constituency.

The competition is open to everyone, children, adults and everyone in between, with the winning design set to become the official coat of arms for Doncaster East and the Isle of Axholme going forward.

The winning coat of arms will also feature on Mr Pitcher’s Christmas cards this year, with one sent directly to the Prime Minister.

Mr Pitcher said: “Doncaster East and the Isle of Axholme is home to so many amazing places, from the Haxey Hood to Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Quarry Park to Doncaster Sheffield Airport, the John Wesley church to GOMDE and so much more.

“We have a rich history, a stunning landscape and communities that are full of pride and character.

“I want to create something that has never been done before. A coat of arms that truly shows off the brilliance of our area. And I want the people who live here to design it.

“;Whether you’re five or ninety-five, I want to see what our area means to you. The winning design will become our official coat of arms and will feature on my Christmas cards this year, including one sent directly to the Prime Minister.

Entries can be submitted by email to [email protected] or by post to Armstrong House, First Avenue, Finningley, Doncaster, DN9 3GA. The deadline for submissions is Friday 20th November 2026.
