Inmate died at Doncaster jail after seizure from powerful drug

A report concluded that the prisoner had a history of drug use

A 20-year-old prisoner died at a Doncaster jail when he suffered a seizure after taking a powerful drug.

Connor Milton died at the city’s HMP Moorland in July 2025 after taking a highly potent synthetic cannabinoid, known as spice, the Prison and Probation Ombudsman has revealed in a report, which has just been published.

The inmate died on July 18.

A post-mortem report confirmed that Milton died from a seizure induced by taking the drug, with staff subsequently discovering ten vape capsules in his cell.

The ombudsman’s investigation noted that Milton had a documented history of drug use and mental health struggles, but received "very good multidisciplinary support" from the prison's staff during his time behind bars.

An inquest jury officially ruled his death as drug-related earlier this year.

The report stated: “Mr Milton’s death was caused by PS (spice).

“He had a history of drug use and had been suspected of being under the influence of PS several times at Moorland.

“We are satisfied that Mr Milton received appropriate support with his drug issues.

“Evidence suggested the drugs that caused Mr Milton’s death entered the prison during another prisoner’s visit on 17 July.”
