Doncaster and Bassetlaw hospitals 'not out of the woods yet' as number of Covid patients nears 140

The Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust issued its weekly update of Covid patient numbers yesterday.

And while the number of confirmed cases being treated in the Trust’s hospitals has declined slightly since last week, the numbers remain high.

A spokesperson said: “At present, our hospitals are caring for 137 patients with Covid-19.

"95 of these patients are being treated at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, 34 at Bassetlaw Hospital and Montagu Hospital have 8 in their care. Of these, 16 patients are being treated in ITU.

“Even though this is slightly less than last week, we're not out of the woods yet and the inspirational faces in the photos below, along with the rest of our team here at DBTH, are still working tremendously hard.

Yesterday (December 10) the NHS announced that another person at Doncaster Royal Infirmary has passed away, bringing the total in the town to 471.

And the most recent infection rate for Doncaster is 214.2 per 100,000 of the population, meaning there were 668 confirmed new cases in the week to December 5.

It is the only local authority area in South Yorkshire that currently has a rising infection rate.
