The local women’s football fixtures were almost wiped out by Storms Austen and Beolo with waterlogged pitches or health and safety reasons causing the postponements.

Just one game survived and that saw Rossington FC record a 4-1 home victory over Aston Swallownest in Sheffield & Hallamshire Women’s County League Division Five. Rossington began the day top on goal difference and the win saw them move three points clear of Bramley Stingers.

Amelia Kamil marked her debut by giving Rossington the lead. Bramley levelled for 1-1 at the interval, but Rossington proved too strong in the second half with Katie Clarke and Summer Pearson netting before Kamil scored her second.

Rossington are the Division’s top scorers with 37 goals from seven games and Pearson is the individual top scorer with 17, just one goal fewer than that of the second highest scoring team.

Rossington Main’s top three North East Regional League Southern Division home game against Knaresborough Town was one of the games postponed because of health and safety reasons. It was frustrating for Rossington whoe pitch at Oxford Street was playable. The League, which covers games from Cleethorpes as far north as Alnwick, made the decision to prevent issues with travel. There were two games played in the Southern Division which saw Rossington drop two places to fifth.

Doncaster Rovers Belles’ fixture at Newport Pagnell Town was called off on Saturday and that has increased the stakes for this Sunday’s East Midlands League Premier Division home clash against Lincoln Women. Belles, who have five points from three games, are fourth in the table, while Lincoln are one place and one point better off.

It is a game in which neither team can realistically afford to drop points as leaders Mansfield Town, maximum points from their four games to date, will be expected to increase that to five games with a visit to second bottom Stamford AFC.

Belles’ quest for League points is then put on hold for two Sundays as they follow the game against Lincoln with an East Midlands League Cup home tie against Pride Park on 8th November and then it is a trip to Huddersfield Town Development in the Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA Women’s Cup third round.

Also scheduled for this Sunday are Altofts v Rossington Main, Rossington Main Reserves v Brinsworth Whitehill, Brodsworth Main Development v Barlborough, Scawthorpe Scorpions v New Lodge and Kinsley Ladies v Rossington FC.
