“The Northern Counties East Football League recognises that this news will be disappointing for the club’s players, management, volunteers and supporters.”

Doncaster City Football Club have resigned their membership from their league with immediate effect, according to an official statement from The Macron Northern Counties East Football League.

The club was founded in 2022 and over the last four years has enjoyed a swift rise through non-league. They notably made the headlines when they signed former Leeds United striker Ross McCormack, Scotland international Charlie Mulgrew and ex-Norwich player Wes Hoolahan on short-term deals in 2024.

However, after four years and a couple of promotions, they have decided to resign from the The Macron Northern Counties East Football League with immediate effect, meaning all the games that they’ve been involved with this season will now be deemed null and void.

The official statement explains: “The Macron Northern Counties East Football League can confirm that Doncaster City Football Club have resigned its membership of the league with immediate effect.

“The league has formally acknowledged receipt of the club's resignation and will now proceed in accordance with FA National League System Regulations and Northern Counties East Football League rules.

“As a Step 6 club withdrawing from the competition during the season, Doncaster City's playing record will be removed from the league's current season records.

“Consequently, all fixtures involving the club will be cancelled and any results, points, goals scored and goals conceded recorded in matches involving Doncaster City during the 2026/27 season will be expunged from the league table and related statistical records.

“The Northern Counties East Football League recognises that this news will be disappointing for the club's players, management, volunteers, supporters and sponsors.

“The league would like to thank Doncaster City FC for its participation during its membership and wishes everyone connected with the club well for the future.

“No further comment will be made by the league at this time.

“The website will be updated with a readjusted Division One table and fixtures list in due course.”

Doncaster City finished in 16th position in the NCEL last season and successfully avoided relegation finishing 11 points clear of the drop zone under former manager John Powney, who recently resigned from his role as manager.

Prior to their resignation, they had made a fairly strong start to the season, picking up 17 points from their opening 10 games, leaving them in fifth position.

Their final outing saw them run out 4-3 winners against Ilkley Town in front of 69 supporters.
