There was nevertheless plenty to pick over throughout the season. Here is how we rated the individual performances of the squad over the season. Only those with five or more senior appearances are included. Let us know what you think about our ratings.

9. DANNY AMOS 7
The youngster stepped up superbly, particularly towards the end of the season when he had the opportunity for a run of senior appearances in the league. He continues to look a very good talent, particularly with his ability on the ball and delivery. Photo: Marie Caley

10. BEN WHITEMAN 8.5
There are no doubts whatsoever that Whiteman is one of League One’s very best players, nevermind midfielders. And that comes after what was not a particularly showy campaign for him personally. He settled into the deeper lying role superbly and became arguably the most important player when it came to how Moore wanted to play. Linking everything from front to back, he was the metronome that made Rovers tick, with superb passing ability and vision. Whiteman deserves extra plaudits for the manner in which he stepped up as captain to become a true leader in the squad. Photo: Howard Roe/AHPIX LTDJPIMedia

11. BEN SHEAF 8
It was a very good season from the Arsenal loanee who has plenty of potential. His partnership with Whiteman was key for Rovers, in both shielding the defence and launching attacks. Strangely maligned at times for losing possession, Sheaf was one of the best passers of the ball in the Rovers side and showed his excellent range. He showed his mature head to not allow criticism to get the better of him, and continued to improve throughout the season. Photo: Gareth Williams/AHPIX LTDJPIMedi

12. MADGER GOMES 7
A player who looked very much as though he would be on the fringes became an important utility man for Rovers as the season wore on. Hard work brought improvement to see him find a place in a Moore team, whether it be in the sitting positions or further forward. He showed good reliability when called upon to give Rovers a little more bite or help stifle the opposition. Photo: Gareth Williams/AHPIX LTDJPIMedi
