There was nevertheless plenty to pick over throughout the season. Here is how we rated the individual performances of the squad over the season. Only those with five or more senior appearances are included. Let us know what you think about our ratings.
5. TOM ANDERSON 9
Undoubtedly the star man for the season, Anderson took his chance to shine and never looked back. Commanding, imposing, fearless, the centre half as a rock at the back to play a big role in Rovers having one of the best defensive records in League One. His levels of consistency were superb as he regularly performed at a high level. And very few of the best forwards in the division ever got the better of him. Anderson has become one of the most important players for the club. Photo: Marie CaleyJPIMedia
6. DONERVON DANIELS 5.5
The Luton loanee’s contribution to Rovers will mostly be remembered for the costly mistakes but he was a solid defender in the main who stepped in well as they were hit by injury issues at the back. It is hard to escape his record of conceding penalties however, with most of them eminently preventable. Photo: JPIMedia
7. CAMERON JOHN 7.5
The Wolves loanee’s run in the side through August and September was one of the best of any Rovers player over the season. For one so young and inexperienced, he looked an extremely accomplished defender with superb composure. He also had great ability on the ball which made him ideal for a Moore system. An untimely injury halted his progress however and it was difficult afterwards for him to nail down regular starts. He was latterly used at left back, with mixed results. Photo: Marie CaleyJPIMedia
8. REECE JAMES 7.5
Much responsibility is placed in the full backs by Moore and James rose to the challenge in a really good first season at Rovers. A very calm player, he defended very well to get the better of opposition wide players on a regular basis. And he also became a real attacking threat for Rovers, finding space in wide areas to put crosses into the box. His set piece taking was also a major plus. A horrendous gash to his shin ultimately scuppered what was left of the season. Photo: Marie CaleyJPIMedia
