Peterborough United sack manager after defeat - former Doncaster Rovers boss won’t be replacing him
Luke Williams has been sacked and a former Doncaster Rovers boss has already distanced himself from replacing him
Peterborough United manager Luke Williams has been sacked following his side’s 2-0 defeat to Doncaster Rovers.
The 45-year-old, who had been in charge for 11 months and 47 matches, departed following a run of two wins in 22 games as last season’s poor end continued into the start of this campaign.

The final straw came this afternoon when goals from Alfie May and Isaac Hutchinson saw Grant McCann’s side take all three points and send the Posh tumbling down the table.
Former Notts County and Swansea City boss Williams had replaced Darren Ferguson when he first arrived in October 2025.

Ferguson, who managed Doncaster Rovers between October 2015 and June 2018, has previously managed the Posh on four separate occasions, including twice since leaving DN4.
However, it appears unlikely that the Scotsman will work under Darragh MacAnthony at the Weston Homes Stadium anytime soon if his recent comments are anything to go by.
When our sister outlet, the Peterborough Telegraph asked him about the possibility of a return, he said: ‘no chance this time.’
This weekend’s result leaves Doncaster Rovers in 21st position heading into the international break but crucially only three points below 11th position as fans start to think about climbing the table.
Peterborough are bottom of the table after Saturday’s defeat and now face the challenge of trying to find a new manager to turn the team’s fortunes around.
