Jack Senior shares a rallying message to supporters after the team’s poor performance against Kidderminster in the FA Cup

Doncaster Rovers left-back Jack Senior says he as ever belief that the group will overcome this period of adversity after a series of poor performances and results.

The 28-year-old, who progressed through the divisions after spells with Gloucester City and Halifax Town in non-league, said: “We knew as a group what to expect coming into a game against lower-league opposition and how it's going to be. We just didn't implement our style of play today."

Rovers were trailing by two goals at half-time in a dismal 45 minutes which saw Lewis Walker open the scoring before assisting Maziar Kouhyar for the second goal. The League One side struggled to get to grips with Walker throughout the half and could very easily headed into the break further behind if the striker hadn’t have missed two further chances to add to his goal tally.

When asked about the message at half-time, Senior said: "We had a choice. Carry on as we were, or go out there, put a positive spin on them, put the pressure on them and get after them.

“There was no other choice but to try and come back from the position we put ourselves in. It wasn't to be, but we gave ourselves a mountain to climb. What we had to climb was not acceptable."

The cup loss came just seven days after a harrowing 6-1 defeat away at MK Dons in League One and is the latest in a long line of disappointing performances this season.

Senior added: "We've got stuff to address. We've got to address what happened today. We've got to come together and stay together. We've got time to stand up to the adversity between us and work even harder, double down and come together.

“I have every belief in this group and this football club that we will come out of this adversity, this spell, where it's not going too well at the minute.

"We've had times like that previously and we will come good. That is down to the people that are in the dressing room, the players, the staff, how hard we work. We've got to double down on that now.

“We can wallow in today or we can stand up to it, meet it head-on and nullify it by working hard. That's the only way in football."
