Doncaster Rovers pair can both hit key EFL landmarks against Luton Town

Doncaster Rovers face Luton Town in a challenging fixture away from home

In pursuit of their first away win at Kenilworth Road for 74 years, Doncaster Rovers travel to Luton Town with the hopes of continuing their ascent up the table.

Grant McCann’s side currently sit 17th in the league table after a run of three wins from five matches, a stark contrast from the previous five games where the team had only managed to pick up a measly three points.

Owen Bailey was the hero last time out against Sheffield Wednesday with an all-important brace to get Rovers back to winning ways. It was a Man of the Match performance from the skipper and one which reminded everyone just why he was nominated for the Player of the Season award last term.

Bailey’s long been considered one of the first names on the teamsheet for McCann - remarkably he’s started every league game since moving from Gateshead to DN4 in 2023 - a tally of 149 and counting in a row.

And now Bailey’s well on the verge of hitting the 150 mark for the club - something which no Rovers player has ever done before with the second highest total of consecutive appearances being set by Bert Tindill, who featured 140 times in a row between September 1948 and December 1951.

Bailey’s strikes took the midfielders tally to 27 for Rovers and 16 in League One since making the jump up to the division for the first time at the start of last season.

However, he still has some way to go if he’s to catch Alfie May, who boasts a record of 116 Football League goals, including 99 in the third-tier of English football.

May, who came off the bench for the final 22 minutes of the win over Sheffield Wednesday, squandered a golden opportunity to hit a century in League One - attempting to get round Owls keeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer before ultimately overrunning the ball and failing to get his shot away.

The 33-year-old, who actually scored his first ever Football League goal against Luton back in February 2017, will be hopeful he can hit that landmark at Kenilworth Road in midweek.
