Three bailed over Tommy Ward murder

Three men arrested on suspicion of murdering 80-year-old great-grandad Tommy Ward have been bailed.

Two men from Sheffield, aged 23 and 30, and a 35-year-old from Rotherham were arrested by police this week following a series of raids across South Yorkshire in connection with the murder investigation.

The men have been bailed while the investigation continues.

Police executed warrants at addresses in Hackenthorpe, Stradbroke, Aston, Ulley, and Wales this week in raids that led to the three arrests.

Mr Ward was found with serious injuries on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at his home in Salisbury Road, Maltby.

Mr Ward was left with a fractured skull, broken jaw, ribs and finger as a result of the assault at his property.

He was immediately taken to hospital where he remained in a critical condition for a number of months as doctors tried to save his life.

He continued to receive medical treatment but sadly died as a result of his injuries on Tuesday, February 23 this year.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said detectives are still appealing for people with information to come forward.

“The investigation into his death continues and anyone with information should call 101,” she said.
