St Leger Homes of Doncaster won’t be ‘complacent’ amid improvements to standard of home conditions

“Providing safe, warm and well-maintained homes for our tenants remains a key priority.”

St Leger Homes of Doncaster (SLHD) will not be ‘complacent’ amid improvements to the number of properties meeting the ‘Decent Homes Standard’, directors have said.

Just 8.2 per cent of properties are not meeting the Standard at the end of 2026/27 quarter one, meaning SLHD are outperforming the nine per cent target set by the City of Doncaster Council.

It represents the second consecutive quarter where the housing provider was ‘better than target’ on the issue, after more than 10 per cent of SLHD properties were not meeting the Standard, set by the UK Government, six months ago.

Lee Winterbottom, Director of Property Services, said: “We are delighted to see that our performance on the Decent Homes Standard is being recognised. Providing safe, warm and well-maintained homes for our tenants remains a key priority, and these results reflect the hard work and commitment of our teams alongside continued investment in our housing stock.

“While we are pleased with our performance on this important matter, we are not complacent and we want to do more while working within our financial constraints. We remain focused on further improving the quality of our homes and delivering excellent services for customers across Doncaster.

“We will continue to invest in planned improvements and responsive maintenance to ensure more residents can enjoy homes that meet and exceed the Decent Homes Standard.”

SLHD’s performance against their council-set targets has got off to a strong start in 2026/27.

According to a recent council report, 18 of the 28 key performance indicators (KPIs) are meeting or exceeding target or ‘within agreed tolerance’.

Earlier in the month, Councillor Glyn Jones, deputy mayor and cabinet member for housing and environment, said the local authority set SLHD ‘very challenging targets’ and he found strong performance against many of them to be ‘pleasing’.
