Doncaster TUC urges DSA to adopt safety charter to stop aviation worker abuse
Doncaster TUC wants to protect airport workers
The Doncaster branch of the Trades Union Congress has called on Doncaster Sheffield Airport bosses to adopt a safety charter to protect aviation workers from abuse,
Doncaster TUC is urging South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority to adopt Unite the Union’s Aviation Worker Safety Charter as part of the reopening process of DSA.

Following the publication of survey results by Unite highlighting shocking levels of abuse across the UK aviation industry, Doncaster TUC are urging the new owners to adopt the Aviation Worker Safety Charter in full.
A spokesperson said: “The charter implementation should be integral to the reopening of Doncaster Sheffield Airport.
“We would expect that any third party service providers, including strategic partners as well an airlines who operate from the airport, to follow suit.
“This commitment will reassure passengers using the airport and workers, when they begin work at the airport once operational, that abuse will not be tolerated at DSA
“The frequency and severity of the abuse faced by workers across aviation is horrific. SYMCA and its partners are in a unique position to be able to adopt the charter with little or no operational disruption and therefore have the opportunity to become pace setters as one of the first owners, and Doncaster City Council (DCC) as one of the first operators of a UK airport to sign up to the charter.”

Doncaster TUC President Jon Moorcroft said: “We have written to the mayors of South Yorkshire & Doncaster as well as the local MPs to ask them to support the adoption of a UK wide worker safety charter in aviation at DSA – something that is also supported by 98% of all aviation workers who responded to Unite’s survey.
“It is simply untenable to continue accepting abuse in aviation as being normal.
“Being abused at work is not part of the job.
“The response to this survey from decision makers needs to be strong and swift.
“SYMCA and DCC need to meet with Unite as a matter of urgency and agree to adopt the aviation charter and lead the way in ensuring the airport serving South Yorkshire and beyond is a safe place to work but also an inviting place from where to travel”.
