Phoenix Nights stars to reunite in Doncaster to lift lid on classic comedy show
The much-loved comedy show is still a television favourite
The cast of much-loved comedy show Phoenix Nights are to reunite in Doncaster to lift the lid on the show.
How Far Away Are They? – An Evening with the Cast of Phoenix Nights will come to Cast in Sir Nigel Gresley Square on October 14.
Neil Fitzmaurice, Toby Foster, Steve Edge, Janice Connolly and Archie Kelly are getting back together to share stories from Phoenix Nights, the cult Channel 4 comedy that remains hugely popular more than two decades after it first aired.
The show began almost by accident, when members of the cast got together for a one-off appearance earlier this year.
The response convinced them that there was an appetite for something more, and now they are taking it around the country.
It is an evening of stories, memories and behind-the-scenes tales from the making of the series, as well as the extraordinary Phoenix Nights Live shows at Manchester Arena.
There is also a full audience Q&A, giving fans the chance to ask the questions they have wanted answering for more than 20 years.
Toby Foster, who played Les in the series, said: “We did the first one thinking it would just be a lovely chance to get together, tell a few stories and have a laugh about something that was a massive part of all our lives.
“What surprised us was how much people still love Phoenix Nights. They know the episodes backwards. They remember tiny things that we’d completely forgotten.
“And because none of us has spent the last 20 years doing this sort of thing, there are loads of stories that people simply haven’t heard before.
“It’s not five people sitting there telling everyone how brilliant we were. Once we get going, we take the mickey out of each other more than anything else. Then we hand it over to the audience and they can ask us whatever they like.”
Phoenix Nights, created by Peter Kay, Neil Fitzmaurice and Dave Spikey, ran for two series on Channel 4 and followed the fortunes of Brian Potter and the staff and regulars of the fictional Phoenix Club in Bolton.
Despite its enduring popularity, the programme is not currently available on the major streaming services, yet it has retained a remarkably loyal following and continues to find new fans.
The touring show brings together Fitzmaurice, who played Ray Von; Foster, who played Les; Edge, who played Alan; Connolly, who played Holy Mary; and Kelly, who played Kenny Senior.
The cast line-up may vary at individual performances, with further surprises possible along the way.
