Doncaster breast cancer survivor urges people to sign up for charity challenge
A Doncaster woman who has battled breast cancer is urging people to sign up to a charity fundraising event to help raise cash for others fighting the disease.
Anne Goforth, 52, of Bessacarr has shared her story ahead of Breast Cancer Now’s Walk 100 Miles in May challenge.
She said: “”After a routine mammogram back in April 2025 along with investigative biopsies, I was diagnosed in May with early breast cancer.
"As you can imagine it totally floored us and our lives changed overnight.

“The worry, the unknown, the waiting all had a massive impact on not just mine but my families lives too.
“In June, I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy followed by a very anxious wait for results from the surgery and from a test sent to America.
"Fortunately it was all removed with a good margin, my nodes were clear.
"The results from the test in July from America determined I didn’t need chemotherapy which was such a huge relief.
“I started radiotherapy at Western Park on the 1 October and also started the challenge of Walking 100 miles in October.
“I felt that the personal challenge would help me get back on track both mentally, by giving me a focus, physically, to help combat fatigue whilst I was going through my remaining treatment but also as an incentive to get me back to full fitness.
“I completed five rounds of radiotherapy which I had a mild skin reaction to but that has now subsided. So, it’s just the daily Tamoxifen and follow up appointments for me now.
“I raised over £2,500 for Breast Cancer Now by taking part in the challenge and I loved being part of that Facebook group at a time when it was more important than ever to me.
"To have the encouragement and support from everyone from the charity and in the group really made it special. I am feeling so incredibly lucky and very grateful to be where I am today.”
In the 31 days it takes to complete the Walk 100 Miles in May challenge, breast cancer will take almost 1,000 lives in the UK.
