From the Editor: We back Doncaster - now we need you

Doncaster is changing, and the Free Press wants to be at the heart of that story. With your support, we can continue to report on the challenges, opportunities and people shaping our city’s future.

Hello!

I am writing to you this week to ask for your help!

It’s nearly three months now since I took the hot seat at the Free Press.

So far I have loved every minute of it, from getting to know and working with the editorial team, to speaking with readers and others around the city.

In my first few months as Editor, in the pages of the Free Press we have covered big stories like the plans to reopen the airport and the new masterplan for the city centre.

Both are huge, ambitious projects which have the potential to deliver long-lasting, positive change to the city and its people.

From my point of view, I’m lucky to have a team of journalists who are working tirelessly to ensure the Free Press is the heartbeat of the city.

Since the summer we have taken big steps to improve the newspaper, as well as our website and other platforms.

A good example of this is how in the past couple of months we’ve significantly increased the number of stories that appear in the newspaper.

We are currently working on other exciting plans to improve our content and to give you better value for money.

We do all this because we back our local communities, we back our local businesses, we back our local schools and local clubs, groups and organisations.

We back Doncaster, that is our mission.

We’re there to support you, but we also need your support.

This is a difficult period of time for local journalism and newspapers like the Free Press.

Firstly, the unique, trustworthy, quality local news and sport coverage we provide comes at a price.

Also, the way people consume local news is changing massively and the actions of big social media and tech companies are creating major challenges for us.

So how can you support us? There are various ways.

If you are a casual reader of the newspaper, or even if you already buy it every week, you can support us by taking out a print subscription.

Not only will you be guaranteed a copy of the paper every week, a subscription will also save you money too.

An annual newspaper subscription costs just £1.60 a week which is a saving of 20% on the standard cover price.

You can subscribe to the paper by calling 0330 403 0066, emailing [email protected] or visiting https://localsubsplus.co.uk/dfp

You can also support us by taking out a digital subscription, which gives you unlimited access to the website, access to all our Premium articles, as well as fewer adverts which means faster load times and a better user experience.

If you want to pay monthly, a digital subscription costs £2 per month for the first two months and then just £3.99 a month after that.

You can get even better value by getting an annual digital subscription, for just £39.99 for 12 months, which works out as 12 months for the price of 10.

Taking out a digital subscription is simple and can be done by visiting https://www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk/subscriptions

If you are reading this then I suspect I may be preaching to the converted.

Thank you for your continued support.
