Doncaster thug who carried out "vicious" attack on woman in hotel is jailed
Thug who punched and kicked woman in brutal attack is jailed
A Doncaster thug who viciously assaulted a woman in a Leeds hotel has been jailed for more than five years.
Lee Chadbourne, aged 38, of Huntingdon Road, Doncaster, pleaded guilty to Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) and Perverting the Course of Justice following a British Transport Police investigation.
At Leeds Crown Court on 23 April, a judge sentenced him to five years and three months in prison.
He was also handed a restraining order forbidding him from contacting the victim.
The court heard how, on Saturday 30 August last year, Chadbourne grabbed a wine bottle and swung it towards the woman’s head.
Chadbourne then subjected her to a sustained attack, punching her head, neck and body, before kicking her in the head which caused a tear in the back of her eye which required laser treatment.
He then left the hotel while the victim sought help.
She managed to make it to reception, bloodied and bruised from her injuries, and reported what had happened to hotel staff who immediately called BTP.
An investigation was launched to track Chadbourne down, and he then handed himself in at a local police station.
He was interviewed and released on conditional police bail while detectives collated evidence against him.
However, he then began intimidating and threatening the victim through a series of phone calls and texts, even offering cash in exchange for her dropping the charges against him.
As a result, he was further arrested for breaching his bail conditions and remanded in custody.
BTP Police Constable Andy Jones said: “This was a cowardly and vicious attack carried out by an extremely violent man.
“I want to commend the victim’s bravery in reporting what happened and supporting our investigation despite Chadbourne’s best efforts to intimidate her into dropping the charges.
“It is testament to her character that she refused to allow him to control her and instead assisted us in bringing him to justice.
“Chadbourne is a nasty and manipulative individual who deserves every day of his five years and three months behind bars.
“Violence towards women and girls will never be tolerated, and just like in this case we will do everything in our power to put offenders before the courts.”
