A special show marking the 50th anniversary of Doncaster sitcom Open All Hours is to air, starring TV icon Sir David Jason.
Comedy legend Sir David Jason is to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Doncaster sitcom Open All Hours with a special new feature length show looking back at its history.
Open All Hours: Inside Out will air on U&Gold on May 7 with the 90 minute show seeing Sir David reprising his role as put on shop assistant Granville once again.
The exclusive feature-length retrospective celebrates one of Britain’s most beloved sitcoms and includes a brand-new short scene, penned by original writer Sir Roy Clarke.
In it, Sir David once again steps into the role of Granville for a final time, closing the shop for the night while offering a touching glimpse into how his life has moved on since we last saw him.
The series - along with later follow up Still Open All Hours - was filmed at a converted hairdressing salon on the corner of Scarth Avenue and Lister Avenue in Balby from 1976 onwards.
2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the classic comedy, with Sir David Jason being the only actor to have starred in every episode of the original series, and the re-boot.
Sir David will discuss his personal journey on the show, revealing exclusive behind-the-scenes moments as well as some of his fondest memories from his time playing grocer, Granville.
Sir David will also be joined by some of his fellow cast who lift the lid on their experiences and celebrate one of the most iconic comedies of all time.
Sir David said: ‘”It’s so good to be back! I played Granville for over half my life and so this show holds a very special place in my heart.
“There are countless memories and stories about this show, and I am thrilled to be able to share those with everyone.”
The original series saw comic icon Ronnie Barker playing penny-pinching shopkeeper Albert Arkwright, with Sir David playing his long-suffering shop assistant Granville.
