Crazy moment pony and trap is ridden through Doncaster's Frenchgate centre

Security responded to remove the animals and their drivers from the centre

This is the crazy moment a pony and trap was ridden through Doncaster’s Frenchgate shopping centre.

Photos and videos, shared on social media. showed the horse and carriage trotting through the shopping mall over the weekend - one of two riders who rode through the centre.

Frenchgate manager Jade Avery said: “We are aware of the incident on Saturday involving two pony traps entering the centre.

“Our security team responded immediately, and both were removed from the centre within less than two minutes.

“Importantly, there were no incidents, injuries nor any disruption caused within the centre as a result.

“The situation was dealt with promptly and safely by the centre team.”

South Yorkshire Police said it was aware of a number of horse and traps in Doncaster over the weekend.

A force spokesperson said: “We had reports of horses and traps around the Doncaster Market area. They were spoken to and then moved on.”

The pony and traps are popular with the Traveller community - and it is thought the increase in the vehicles is due to the 250th St Leger meeting taking place in Doncaster this week, with visitors coming from far and wide.
