Basketball: Danum Eagles go clear at the top

Danum Eagles went two points clear at the top of Division Three with victory over Sheffield Saints - although their 83-70 triumph was far from plain sailing.

Eagles established a comfortable lead on more than one occasion but allowed Saints back into the game.

George Colwill impressed a packed Danum Academy crowd with an all-action display and 23 points.

Oliver Hyland (21) and Mathew Martin (15) also led the way for Eagles.

The Doncaster club are two points clear of nearest rivals Team Newcastle University but have played three games more than the north east club.

n Danum Eagles Under 14s went joint top of the North East Development League after a 69-48 win over fellow high flyers Tees Valley Mohawks.

Casper Janiak stood out with ten points and 21 rebounds, while the prolific Matt Melady led all scorers with 31 points.

Eagles Under 18s suffered a 73-59 defeat at the hands of a very good Durham Wildcats team.

Turnovers and a lack of rebounding cost the Doncaster youngsters dearly.

Harrison Bell led all scorers with 23 points.
