Astrea Academy Trust celebrates excellent SATs results across its Doncaster primary schools
The trust is also proud to announce that over half of its 18 primary schools across South Yorkshire are now achieving at or above the national average
Astrea Academy Trust is celebrating after its primary schools in Doncaster received an excellent set of results in this year’s national tests, known as SATs, which they sat in May.
At Kingfisher Academy in Wheatley, an impressive 85% of Year 6 pupils achieved or exceeded the expected level in reading, writing and maths tests - well above the national average of 63%.
While at Denaby Main Primary Academy, 78% of pupils met or exceeded the standard in all these tests. Astrea is also pleased to see some remarkable improvements on last year’s results, with results for Year 6s at Hexthorpe Academy up an incredible 29 percentage points this year and 11 percentage points at Atlas Academy.
The trust is also proud to announce that over half of its 18 primary schools across South Yorkshire are now achieving at or above the national average, with 71% of its primary pupils meeting the standard in reading, 71% in writing and 73% in maths at the end of their primary schooling.
In total, 63% of pupils met the expected standard in all of these tests, up by nine percentage points on last year. Disadvantaged pupils in Astrea’s schools achieved above the national disadvantage benchmarks, highlighting the trust’s determination to deliver for those children who need the most support.
In addition, the trust is delighted to report that 84% of pupils in Year 1 passed their phonics screening tests, up five percentage points on last year.

Jo Leishman, Primary Director of Primary Education at Astrea Academy Trust, said: “Congratulations to all our pupils and staff who have worked so hard to achieve these excellent results.
“This academic achievement will equip pupils for the next stage of their education as they move on to secondary education in September.
“We look forward to building on this fantastic set of results further in the coming academic year.”
Rowena Hackwood, CEO of Astrea Academy Trust, said: “We are very proud of these results which reflect the high expectations we have at Astrea.“It is fitting that, as we celebrated our 10-year anniversary earlier this term, these strong SATs outcomes demonstrate the upward trajectory of the trust.
“I would like to congratulate all our pupils on their excellent achievements and staff for working so hard with every child.”
