With Halloween just days away, a South Yorkshire village has taken the top spot in new research examining where people across the UK are showing the greatest online interest in Halloween costumes.

Research conducted by UK digital marketing agency Koozai analysed Google Trends data between 1 September and 6 October 2026, looking at searches for Halloween and related activities across towns and communities throughout the country.

New Rossington achieved a score of 100 out of 100 for the search term 'Halloween costume', the highest possible Google Trends index score.

The village topped the costume search rankings, ahead of Cairnryan in Scotland and Shotts in North Lanarkshire, which both recorded scores of 98.

The findings place New Rossington at the top of Koozai's UK dataset for relative Halloween costume search interest in the weeks leading up to 31 October.

New Rossington leads the way for Halloween costumes

New Rossington's score of 100 suggests that Halloween costume searches have been particularly popular relative to overall search activity in the village.

Other communities across South Yorkshire also featured in Koozai's research, including Conisbrough, which recorded a Halloween costume search score of 56.

Thurnscoe achieved a costume search score of 45, while nearby areas also appeared in the wider Halloween-related data.

The findings highlight how smaller communities can feature prominently in seasonal search trends, alongside larger towns and cities.

While the research does not reveal which costumes New Rossington residents are choosing, it suggests that interest in finding the perfect Halloween outfit has been particularly noticeable online.

South Yorkshire communities also show strong Halloween interest

Alongside costume searches, Koozai examined general interest in Halloween across the UK.

Thurnscoe recorded a relative search interest score of 73 out of 100 for the term 'Halloween', placing it ninth in the general Halloween dataset.

Conisbrough also featured with a score of 62, while Hoyland achieved 60.

Elsewhere in South Yorkshire, Rotherham recorded a score of 57, followed by Wath upon Dearne, also on 57, and Barnsley at 54.

The research also examined searches for Halloween decorations, pumpkin carving and makeup, offering a wider picture of the seasonal activities attracting online attention.

New Rossington also appeared in the Halloween decorations dataset, although no numerical score was available for the village in that category.

The findings offer a snapshot of how communities across South Yorkshire are preparing for Halloween, from researching costumes to searching for decoration ideas.

How were the Halloween hotspots identified?

Koozai analysed Google Trends data across five Halloween-related search terms: 'Halloween', 'Halloween costume', 'Halloween decorations', 'Pumpkin carving' and 'Halloween makeup'.

The research covered the period from 1 September to 6 October 2026, capturing online search interest during the build-up to Halloween.

Google Trends measures relative search popularity on a scale of 0 to 100, with 100 representing the highest level of search interest within the selected dataset.

The figures do not represent total search volumes or the percentage of residents celebrating Halloween. Instead, they indicate where searches were particularly popular relative to overall search activity.

Although the findings cannot confirm how many New Rossington residents will be dressing up for Halloween, the village recorded the highest relative interest in Halloween costume searches within Koozai's dataset.

The research was conducted by Koozai, a UK digital marketing agency specialising in SEO, digital PR and content marketing.
