A huge Pokemon Go event is to be held at Doncaster’s historic Corn Exchange this weekend.

The first ever official Pokemon Go Community Celebration will be held on Sunday from 10am to 6pm.

A spokesperson for the event said: “A new chapter awaits brave trainers. Follow the shimmering lights and discover encounters spun from folklore and stardust.

“This is where community passion meets official gameplay.

"Expect a true in-person experience both on the ground in the City of Doncaster and in-game. From official route tours and raid trains, to geocache adventures and competitive challenges, to live activities and celebrations across the city.

“This is not just an event. It's a milestone — where the communities of the North unite to deliver something truly world-class. Join us. Be a part of Pokémon GO history.”

The Wild Awakens is a community-run creative experience designed, developed and organised by Community Ambassadors.

The experience is not sponsored by or affiliated with Niantic, Scopely, The Pokémon Company, Game Freak or The Pokémon Company International.

The original storyline has been developed by the Raiding Doncaster and Beyond Community Ambassadors as an independent, fan-made experience, created to celebrate the spirit of exploration and community that playing Pokémon Go inspires.

The spokesperson added: “During the event, the games creators are taking over the market area with in-game events, free merch, activities ran by volunteers from across the north of England and locals can get involved for free.

“It’s a great opportunity for the city and for local residents to get involved in.”
