'It’s going to take a squad effort' - Doncaster RLFC boss Richard Horne's message after win over Goole Vikings
Steve Hossack reports on another win for Doncaster RLFC
Doncaster RLFC ended their most successful league Championship campaign in over a decade when signing off with a 36-14 win over Goole Vikings at the Victoria Pleasure Ground.
It was the club’s eighth win in as many games and their eleventh in their last twelve league games during which time they have beaten three other top sides.
“It was one of those games where there wasn’t much to really play for having secured fourth spot the week before when beating Sheffield Eagles,” said head coach Richard Horne.

“It was sloppy at times due to it stopping and starting and we failed to convert a number of opportunities. We also made a lot of errors which we can’t afford to do against Barrow in the first round of the play-offs this weekend.
“It was physical which we knew it would be and we picked up a few bumps and bruises. The main injury at this moment in time looks to be (winger) Luke Briscoe who came off with a groin injury early in the second half. We’ll have to see how he is in training this week but it doesn’t look too good at this moment in time.”
With such as Connor Robinson, who needs to kick two more goals to set a new British league record for successive successful kicks at goal, Reece Lyne and Tom Holmes all ruled out, the Dons showed a number of changes
Said Horne: “Some of the lads hadn’t played for a week or two and it gave them the opportunity to put their name forward for the Barrow game and going forward.
“It’s going to take a squad effort if we are to get through to the play-off final, so it was good to give some of the players who haven’t played a lot recently, some good minutes.
“Every team is in the same boat with busted squads. In a way we are not as badly off as some of the other teams but that could all change in one game. It’s where you get the injuries and whether you’ve got cover in those positions which is the crucial thing.”
