Rossington substitutes make the difference in Worsbrough win

George Noble restored Rossington Main’s lead before fellow substitute Mohssen Mohamed completed a 4-2 victory over Worsbrough Bridge in stoppage time.

Rossington Main’s substitutes delivered the decisive contributions as the visitors overcame the loss of a two-goal lead to defeat Worsbrough Bridge 4-2 on Friday night.
George Noble struck with 20 minutes remaining to put Main back in front before Mohssen Mohamed secured the points in stoppage time with his first goal for the club.
Rossington had appeared in control after Rob Guilfoyle and Ross Hannah each scored their fifth goal of the campaign inside the opening 25 minutes, but Worsbrough responded with two goals in four minutes.
Guilfoyle had already struggled to make clean contact after being found in the penalty area by Mack Warne when another opportunity arrived in the 11th minute. The striker held off Jake Holdsworth, moved clear of his challenge and guided the ball beyond Oliver Rodzos.
Main continued to create openings on the left, where Oscar Wainwright beat Toure Bell before being brought down inside the box by the on-loan Barnsley man. Hannah converted the resulting penalty into the bottom-left corner to double the advantage.
The contest changed quickly. Joshua Hague reduced Worsbrough’s deficit in the 27th minute and Owen Birks headed the equaliser four minutes later. Kian Johnson got back up to claw the ball away, but the referee’s assistant judged that it had fractionally crossed the line.
The Briggers then threatened to complete the turnaround before the interval. Harrison Marvin found an opening, only for Reece Fielding to block his attempt with an outstretched leg.
Noble’s introduction added energy to the Rossington midfield and the substitute made his impact count. When Athletic failed to clear Warne’s cross, he moved beyond Birks and drove a powerful shot towards goal. Rodzos got a hand to the effort but could not prevent it from squirming in.
Worsbrough almost levelled again during a quick break, but Harry Mitchell intervened to deny the hosts as they attacked with numbers.
Guilfoyle was later denied as Rossington pursued a fourth goal, which arrived through Mohamed in added time. The winger caught the defence out, beat the offside trap, rounded the goalkeeper and finished into an empty net before celebrating with an acrobatic display.
Main will next turn their attention to their Senior Cup quarter-final tie at Frickley Athletic.
