Doncaster Rovers were comfortably beaten by play-offs bound Blackpool.

Goals in either half from Ellis Simms earned the Tangerines a routine win and kept Rovers 12th in the table going into Sunday’s final round of fixtures.

Blackpool 2 Doncaster Rovers 0

Louis Jones blocks a shot from Jordan Gabriel at his near post. Blackpool getting a bit of a head of steam here.

14min Looking after the ball really well

Rovers have made a strong start to this game in how they are looking after the ball. They’re under a lot of pressure from the Blackpool press but they’re moving the ball around the pitch well.

Louis Jones gets across his goal to push away a 25 yard free kick from Luke Garbutt.

A short corner routine from Rovers sees Taylor Richards lash a low ball into the box which Tom Anderson strikes first time at the near post but sends it wide.

A bright start from Rovers.

2min Nice free kick

Matt Smith curls in a low free kick from the right and it seemingly only needs a touch from Tyreece John-Jules to put it on target but he cannot reach it.

And for the first time in his tenure Andy Butler names the same starting XI as the previous game.

Could Andy Butler actually name the same starting XI for the consecutive matches for the first time in his reign?

For the first time, he should have the opportunity to do so, having reported no fresh injury worries.

With such a positive performance at Rochdale under Rovers’ belts, there seems no need for him to do so, particularly having taken off three of his front four midway through the second half.

Possible: Jones; Wright, Anderson, Butler, Horton; Smith, James; Lokilo, John-Jules, Richards; Okenabirhie.

Let us hope this is not another wasted trip

I must confess, watching the rain lash down in Doncaster on Bank Holiday Monday did make me fearful over the fate of tonight’s fixture.

Having arrived in Blackpool back in February to discover the fixture was in the process of being postponed due to the most waterlogged of all pitches, a repeated journey did not bring the most enthusiasm.

Fingers crossed this one gets underway and completed this evening. God knows when they’d rearrange it for if it didn’t.
