There was nevertheless plenty to pick over throughout the season. Here is how we rated the individual performances of the squad over the season. Only those with five or more senior appearances are included. Let us know what you think about our ratings.

17. KIERAN SADLIER 8
It was a season in which Sadlier truly announced himself in English football. Starting the season as an auxiliary striker, he took up the goalscoring mantle throughout as Rovers largely struggled to convert pressure into goals. Dangerous inside and outside the box, he was always difficult to track for opposition defences. He rarely dominated matches, which is why his rating is not higher, but there was always a feeling he could produce something from nothing. Photo: Gareth Williams/AHPIX LTDJPIMedi

18. MAX WATTERS 6
With a lack of attacking options in the senior squad, there was always going to be an opportunity for a member or two of the U23s to step up. Watters did that on occasion and acquitted himself well. His attacking ability has never been in doubt at the club, with his direct running and pace being major assets. He managed to showcase that at senior level during his cameos. 19. NIALL ENNIS 8
The forward was thrown in at the deep end with plenty of pressure put on his shoulders to lead the line for Rovers, with few other options within the squad. And he rose to the challenge much better than could have been expected. He worked his socks off consistently, whether dropping deep to take the ball or hard running against defenders. He found a greater goalscoring threat as the season wore on and looked dangerous when switched to a wide position. Photo: Bruce RollinsonJPIMedia

20. FEJIRI OKENABIRHIE 6.5
Like Cole, we did not see enough of Okenabirhie after his signing in January, with a three match ban particularly harmful to his hopes of establishing himself quickly. But he looked like the player Rovers had been missing during his time on the pitch, a striker whose movement in front of the goal would turn great build-up players into shots. It will be interesting to see how he fares next season. Photo: Greg Dunbavand/AHPIX LTDJPIMedia
