‘Always a threat’ - 43-time international’s Will Keane verdict and the Doncaster Rovers pairing he thinks could thrive
Will Keane has made a solid impression since signing for Doncaster Rovers on a free transfer
Doncaster Rovers have got themselves a striker with real quality, technical ability and a knack for scoring goals in Will Keane.
That’s according to former QPR, Peterborough and Sheffield United frontman Conor Washington, who has waxed lyrical about Keane’s credentials and the wide variety of qualities that he can offer Grant McCann’s side moving forward.

Speaking exclusively to the Free Press, via BestBettingBonuses.co.uk, Washington said: “I think Will Keane’s a really good signing for Doncaster.
“Will's always had real quality and a knack for scoring goals. He's a bit of a hybrid as a striker in that he's technically very good, moves intelligently and can link play, but he's also really comfortable receiving with his back to goal and competing with centre-halves. That makes him quite difficult to play against, because he's not someone you can defend in just one way.”
Rovers supporters have already seen glimpses of Keane’s quality in the three appearances he has made so far for the club. The most notable of which came against Sheffield Wednesday where he produced an impressive performance against his former employers to help McCann’s men to a deserved 2-0 victory.
Washington continued: “I played against him when he was scoring regularly at Wigan and he was always a threat. He's got that intelligence and composure in and around the box that you tend to see in experienced goalscorers, and I think he'll bring a lot to Doncaster's attacking play beyond just his goals.”
Keane is one of three League One Golden Boot winners currently on the books at the Club Doncaster Sports Village alongside Alfie May and James Collins.
Washington knows Collins well from his time at Derby County with him and has also played against him plenty of times throughout his career in the game.
He added: “As for Collo, he's a top professional and I've got absolutely no doubt he'll come back in great shape (hopefully he's had time to work on his swing too). Having played alongside him, I know he's got an unbelievable hunger to score goals, and I'd back him to be ready to contribute as soon as he's called upon.
“I definitely think the two could complement each other. They've both got that goalscoring instinct, but Will's ability to drop in, link play and operate between the lines could work really well alongside Collo's movement and desire to get into goalscoring positions. Ultimately, having two experienced strikers with those qualities gives the manager some really good options, whether that's playing together or competing for places.”
Rovers fans are currently still waiting to see Collins play for the first time after his deadline day loan move from Lincoln City. However, in a positive update, McCann did reveal that the striker should be back in contention after the November international break, meaning he could potentially make his debut in one of the Yorkshire derbies against either Bradford City or Huddersfield Town.
