A Doncaster-based organisation is quietly reshaping what support looks like for neurodivergent adults, helping hundreds of people build confidence, independence, and real opportunities across the region.

Stride Yorkshire, founded in 2022, now supports close to 300 adults across its services, within these services, Stride delivers 900+ hours of one-to-one independence coaching every month.

The organisation works primarily with neurodivergent adults, a term used to describe people whose brains work differently, including those with autism, ADHD, and related conditions. Many of the individuals Stride supports have previously felt overlooked, misunderstood, or unable to access the right kind of help.

A different approach to support

At the heart of Stride’s work is a simple idea: support should fit the person not the other way around.

Through its independence coaching service, 54 adults are supported each week to build life skills, develop confidence, and take meaningful steps forward in their lives. This is backed by a 90% engagement rate and an exceptional 99% retention rate over the past three years, figures that reflect both the consistency of the support and the trust built with those accessing it.

'I Cannot thank Logan and the team enough. They have been there for us when we have needed them. They have gone above and beyond with the level of support they have given not just our son but us as a family. Giving practical personalised support makes a huge difference. Thank you for never giving up.' - Parent of service user

Every individual supported by Stride makes progress:

“For some people, that might be getting a job. For others, it’s leaving the house more, building friendships, or simply feeling more confident in themselves. Every single person we support makes significant progress, and that’s what matters,” Logan (Director of Stride)

Creating real opportunities

Alongside its coaching work, Stride is also working directly with local employers to open up opportunities that might not otherwise exist.

In just the past three months, the organisation has:

– Created 54 new opportunities with local employers

– Supported over 50 individuals into paid employment

This builds on a strong track record, with over 50 individuals supported into work across the previous year.

By working closely with businesses, Stride is helping to challenge outdated perceptions and demonstrate the value that neurodivergent individuals bring to the workplace.

More than a service

While structured support is a core part of what Stride offers, the organisation has also focused on creating spaces where people feel comfortable, included, and part of a community.

Regular activities include:

– Stride Social (pub quiz nights)

– Dungeons & Dragons groups

– Football sessions

– Craft clubs

– Georgie’s Wombles (litter picking)

These opportunities play a key role in helping people build friendships, reduce isolation, and develop confidence in social settings.
