Young people aged 16 to 25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) can now take the next step towards employment and greater independence through Stride’s two-year Supported Internship Programme.

Based in Doncaster, the programme is designed to help young neurodivergent people build the confidence, practical skills and experience needed to move from education into paid work and greater independence.

The first year focuses on preparing learners for life and work through a classroom-based programme. Areas covered include emotional resilience, self-understanding, financial management, travel training and everyday life skills.

Learners also have opportunities to develop their communication and social skills, explore potential career paths and build their employability through activities such as mock interviews, guest speakers and experiences within the wider community.

The second year moves into the workplace, with learners undertaking three to four tailored work placements. These are matched to their individual strengths, interests and longer-term career aspirations, helping them gain practical experience in environments suited to their needs.

Throughout the programme, Stride’s specialist Employment Team works with learners to help them progress towards securing and sustaining paid employment, with ongoing support as they develop both personally and professionally.

The programme operates with small group sizes and a low-stimulation learning environment, with an emphasis on understanding each young person as an individual and providing support that reflects their circumstances and goals.
