Pupils at Doncaster school race off on their very own new bike track
The track is already proving a huge hit with pupils
Pupils at a Doncaster school are racing into an exciting new adventure - on their very own bike track.
St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Rossington has taken outdoor learning and physical activity to a whole new level with the opening of its incredible new bike track – a fantastic addition to the school that has quickly become one of the most exciting parts of the school day.

The purpose-built bike track is already proving to be a huge hit with pupils, bringing excitement, adventure and plenty of rosy cheeks to breaktimes and lunchtimes!
Whilst many schools have playgrounds and sports fields, very few can boast their very own dedicated bike track, making this a truly unique feature of St. Joseph’s and something the whole school community is incredibly proud of.
The exciting project became a reality after the school successfully secured funding through the Doncaster Sport Capital Grant, following an application submitted in spring 2026.
The funding has enabled the school to transform part of its extensive outdoor space into a fantastic facility designed to encourage children to get active, build confidence and develop a lifelong love of cycling.

Stretching the length of the school field, the impressive track incorporates hills, exciting rollers – a series of gentle rises and dips that add an extra thrill to the ride – and several split routes, allowing children to choose different pathways and levels of challenge.
Whether pupils are developing their cycling confidence or looking for a more adventurous ride, the track offers something for everyone.
Since opening in September, the track has been an overwhelming success, with children eagerly awaiting their allocated days to get out on their bikes.
The school is now taking the project one step further by purchasing a range of different-sized bikes and safety helmets, ensuring that every child, regardless of whether they own a bike at home, will have the opportunity to experience the excitement of the track.
Headteacher Marianne Courtney said: "We are absolutely thrilled with our new bike track. It really is something special and a fantastic addition to our school - our St. Joseph's boys and girls absolutely love it.
“We are particularly proud that this is an opportunity we want every single child to enjoy.
“For us, it's about much more than learning to ride a bike – it's about creating experiences, building confidence and making memories that our children will treasure.
