Doncaster school playing field to be upgraded to sports pitch for local clubs and pupils

Plans to upgrade a playing field at a Doncaster school to an artificial sports pitch to be used by several local clubs have been approved by the council.

Planning officers at Doncaster Council have approved an application to create an artificial sports pitch for community and school use at Campsmount Academy in Norton.

Part of the school’s playing field will be converted into a 3g artificial grass pitch set with floodlights, viewing areas and perimeter fencing.

The project is set to receive funding from the Football Foundation, the UK’s largest sports charity.

It channels funding from organisations including the Premier League and the Football Association to boost grassroots sports facilities across the country.

The upgrade will benefit local clubs that already use the facility, such as Doncaster MIND, Netters, Leger Sport Netball Club, Askern Miners, Carcroft FC and Adwick Park Rangers.

While the field was previously unusable during adverse weather conditions due to flooding, the new site will be available for clubs and school pupils year-round.

Several other groups have expressed interest in using the facility following the upgrade including Andy’s Man Club and Mental Health FC.

When not in use by pupils, slots will be available for local clubs outside of school opening hours until 10pm on weekdays, and 8am to 6pm on weekends.

In order to offset biodiversity lost by replacing the field with an artificial site, grassland in other parts of the school will be enhanced and 25 trees will be planted.
