Radio Sheffield presenter Toby Foster reveals "massive ADHD meltdown" made him miss awards ceremony win

BBC Radio Sheffield presenter Toby Foster has revealed how his battle with ADHD made him miss a prestigious victory at a London awards ceremony last night.

The breakfast show host’s daily show for the station won best speech breakfast show at the annual Radio Academy awards.

But the comedian and presenter, who suffers from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, revealed how he had missed the victory and had ‘walked round London for three hours calming down’ after a ‘massive ADHD meltdown.’

In a series of tweets to his 41,500 Twitter followers he wrote: “We won apparently. I don’t know, I was wandering round London having a massive ADHD meltdown.

“This is what ADHD does. After 2 hours in The Palladium, I had to go for a 3 hour walk. Missing the win.

“Anyhoo. It’s nearly 4 am and I’m sat well with my bag packed at KX (London King’s Cross). Let’s get home.”

He returned to social media again this morning and added: “So sorry to have to leave the award do last night.

“Had a full on meltdown. Too many triggers, too much going off. Walked round London for hours calming down! Congratulations to all the fantastic team.”

Listeners and fans, including The Chase’s Paul Sinha, rushed to show their support for the radio presenter who starred alongside Peter Kay in Phoenix Nights.

One Twitter user wrote: “Congratulations on the award - well done on recognising the signs and your need to move away from it all.”

Another wrote “Great result! The team do a great job every morning. Award nights can be stressful at the best of times. Hope you feel better soon.”

Paul Sinha, one of the stars of ITV quiz show The Chase, wrote: “Aww man, much love,” while Jon McClure, lead singer of Sheffield band Reverend and The Makers posted: “Hope ya or8 mate x”

Another user posted: “#ItsOkNotToBeOk Hope you are feeling more like yourself today mate xx”

Foster, 50, who also promotes and comperes at Sheffield's Last Laugh comedy club, has presented the Radio Sheffield breakfast show since 2002.
