Doncaster is hosting an open mic night with authors from The Booker Prize

The event which is being run by Doncaster Creates will be hosted by authors Fiona Mozley and Lemn Sissay MBE and will take place on Thursday, November 26 at 7pm.

Poet Ian McMillian will be reading his work which includes two pieces tributed to Doncaster.

Juliet Farrar, from Doncaster creates, said: “We are looking forward to as many people as possible joining us as an audience for this unique opportunity.

Ian McMillan's will be reading his work at the open mic night.

“It is completely free of charge to hear budding Doncaster writers perform alongside internationally regarded authors at this special open mic night.

“Fifteen Doncaster writers will read passages of their work.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of a truly international literary event and to have Doncaster words heard across the globe.”

Doncaster is in partnership with the Booker Prize this year which has been organised through Doncaster Creates.

As part of this partnership the artists group is asking people to join a new campaign named ‘Doncaster: The Books That Made Us.’

In which people film short videos of themselves talking about books that have given meaning to their lives.

Anyone who takes part is entered into a competition to win one of this year's Booker Prize shortlisted books.

Host Fiona Mozley said: “I am so looking forward to my virtual visit to Doncaster.

“The landscape to the north of the city inspired my first novel.

“I am eager to discover other responses to the area.

“I only wish that I could be there in person.”
