Doncaster hospital volunteer returns to work - at the age of 90

A big-hearted Doncaster hospital volunteer is back at work – at the age of 90.

Coralie May volunteers at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, where she has given 34 years’ service with the Royal Voluntary Service.

She was recently forced to take a two year break due to illness – but is now back supporting staff and patients every Friday morning from 9am to 12pm as a shop assistant.

Coralie receives support from carers twice a day through HICA at Home Doncaster, part of not-for-profit social care provider The HICA Group.

The support has helped her regain confidence and independence, enabling her return.

She has received long service awards, a medal from the Mayor of Sheffield and also attended a national commemoration at the Royal Albert Hall in the presence of Queen Camilla.

Coralie said: “God has been good to me, so after a two-year break due to illness I have gone back. I want to give something back. I love doing it. I really enjoy it.”
