Pam Johnson: Flowers laid as school plans tribute after teacher's death

A number of bouquets have been placed around a tree outside Kingfisher Primary Academy in Wheatley where the 63-year-old taught generations of pupils, with many former students and parents paying tribute.

On Monday, police, who had spent 11 days searching for Pam, also known as Shirley, revealed that they had found a body in the Barnby Dun area.

Bosses at Kingfisher have confirmed they are considering ways to pay tribute to Mrs Johnson who was described in tributes as “a legend” and “well-loved.”

Yesterday, a Kingfisher spokesman said: “Our immediate thoughts and condolences are with Pam’s family, friends, and loved ones.

“We are supporting staff and pupils throughout the day and we will be ensuring that pupils and staff know where to get any additional support they need.

“We will keep our school community updated on our plans to pay tribute to Mrs Johnson when the time is right.

“In the coming days we will all deal with this news differently and we know that everyone in our school community will be respectful of each other and sensitive in our interactions.”

A huge search for Mrs Johnson, who was last seen on March 14 on Thorne Road after leaving a property in Winchester Avenue, was conducted by police and members of the public with thousands of posters issued.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “Our thoughts are with Pam’s loved ones at this most difficult of times.”
