Motorists 'behaving incredibly dangerously' on Doncaster flood routes

Motorists have been accused of moving warning signs which are intended to keep drivers off flooded routes.

Officials from Doncaster Council confirmed they had received reports of the actions, which emergency teams working for the authority tonight escribed as ‘incredibly dangerous’.

A spokesman for the council said several routes were closed. They added: “We’ve also had reports of people moving road closure signs to drive through. This is incredibly dangerous, not only for yourself but for fellow drivers who may miss the sign.”

“Our teams are still out and about monitoring water levels and providing action and support in areas of potential flood risk.”

They added they were working closely with the Environment Agency this evening, who continue to provide us with updates as they responded the situation.

Five flood alerts are still in place across Doncaster, including the Lower River Don catchment, which means: “Flooding is possible - be prepared.”
