A road and two bridges have been closed over flooding concerns in Doncaster this morning.

Officials at Doncaster Council have confirmed that the A60 Doncaster Road, between Tickhill and Wadworth, has been closed due to flooding after Storm Dennis hit the borough.

In addition, Greys Bridge, at Denaby a closed at the Junction of Doncaster Road, Mexborough, and outside Dearne Valley Leisure Centre.

Jubilee Bridge, Fishlake, is also closed.

The Environment Agency has also stated that it expects the Fordstead Lane to close at some point, but no announcement of its closure has yet been made.

A spokesman said: “For your safety we urge drivers not to attempt to drive through flood water and temporary road closures.”

The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the Lower River Don catchment, the Middle River Don, River Dearne catchment, River Went catchment and the Tidal Trent wider floodplain from Gainsborough to the Humber confluence.

It means: “Flooding is possible - be prepared.”

The EA said: “As a result of the heavy rainfall associated with Storm Dennis, river levels on the River Don are elevated and still rising.

“We expect levels to continue rising throughout today (16/02/2020). Fordstead lane is now expected to flood and Jubliee Bridge will be closed.

“Please do not walk or drive through flood water and plan driving routes to avoid low lying land that may be flooded. We have staff in the field and are closely monitoring the situation from our Leeds incident room. “
