Grade II listed Doncaster area eatery to re-open as Italian restaurant
The sprawling building dates from 1771
A historic Grade II listed Doncaster area building is set to re-open as an Italian restaurant after coming under new ownership.
The Mucky Duck at Drakeholes closed its doors in April last year, to the shock of customers.

The venue, which dates from 1771, is now set to bounce back as an Italian eatery, bosses have announced.
In a statement, a spokesperson said: “Big news from the Mucky Duck - we’re delighted to announce that The Mucky Duck is under new ownership and will soon reopen as Basil’s at the Mucky Duck, a brand-new Italian restaurant serving great food, warm welcomes and real hospitality in a relaxed, vibrant setting.
“To bring Basil’s to life, we’re now building an exceptional new team - and we’re recruiting for roles across the business, including general manager, front-of-house team, bar team, chefs and kitchen team and back-of-house team.
“We’re looking for enthusiastic, hardworking people who are massively customer-focused and genuinely passionate about making every guest feel special.
“Whether you’re an experienced hospitality professional or an exciting new talent ready for your next opportunity, we’d love to hear from you.”

The restaurant first opened during the Covid pandemic but bosses announced it was closing “indefinitely” in April last year.
The restaurant, situated in Eel Pool Road near Mattersey sits on the edge of the Chesterfield Canal.
In 2023, it was forced to close for several months after raiders caused £250,000 worth of damage when a stolen telehandler was repeatedly rammed into the listed building.
The late 18th century inn was rebuilt in 1771 and served passing traffic under the name The White Swan.
