The bible belonged to his grandfather, Cpl Graham Chapman Harverson, who served in the Royal Marines during the Far East campaign in Burma, Ceylon, Crete and Eqypt.

Sqn Ldr Dixon has taken the keepsake on every operation to which he has been deployed and carried it on parade as he represented the RAF in the national commemoration.

He said: “I feel a sense of pride leading the RAF detachment today, to represent the RAF and more importantly, to see the veterans come through, especially the Royal Air Force veterans.

“I suppose that’s where the biggest pride comes through because you’re doing it for them, you’re doing it for those that are still serving and obviously for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.”

Sqn Ldr Dixon’s path into the service began with the Air Cadets. He initially joined the RAF as a reservist before becoming a full-time regular.

His career with the RAF Regiment, which protects military airfields, aircraft and personnel on operations, has taken him around the world.

He now commands the King’s Colour Squadron (63 RAF Regiment), the RAF’s only squadron combining ceremonial and operational duties. Its personnel provide frontline force protection as well as representing the nation on parade.
