The MP was put in the stocks at the event

A Doncaster MP was pelted with wet sponges at a summer fayre in the city.

Doncaster East and Isle of Axholme MP Lee Pitcher was put in the stocks at the School’s Out for Summer event in Thorne at the weekend.

The Labour MP said: “Can’t understand why there was such a sudden rush to pick up sponges once I was thrown into the stocks!

“What a fabulous community event hosted by Thorne-Moorends Town Council.”

The event also included line dancing, face painting, ponies, hair-brading, food, refreshments, badge-making with the 62nd Doncaster (Thorne Scout Group) and plenty more.

Added Mr Pitcher: “The community was out in force and everyone seemed to love every second. Thank you to the organisers for kicking off the summer in style.”
