Doncaster Leisure Trust supports military and veteran community

The military and veteran community are set to benefit from a new partnership, which was launched on May 1, between Doncaster Council and Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust (DCLT).

The partnership will mean that members of the Armed Forces Community and their families will be eligible for discounted fitness training and leisure access to all 14 of DCLT’s venues.

Michael Hart, chief executive of Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust explains: “Following our recent lifelong membership package given to Ben Parkinson MBE, the UKs most injured soldier, we have been working with the Armed Forces Veteran Support team at Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council to look at what else we could do to support our local Armed Forces Community.

“This new partnership will allow members of the Armed Forces Community, regular, reserve or retired and their families to discounted swimming, skating and gym use.

“We are pleased to be able to provide this offer to show our support to the town’s military and veteran community.”

The discounts which are available to see on www.dclt.co.uk/military include swimming for £1.50 at all sites, anytime for veterans and all accompanying up to eight family members, skating for £3 at The Dome, anytime for veterans and up to eight accompanying family members and casual gym use at any of our sites for serving regular and reserve forces personnel at £4 per visit or a reduced monthly rate of £18.50 peak £15.95 off peak.

Karen Johnson, Assistant Director of Communities at Doncaster Council said: “This is great news for the local Armed Forces community, and I’m glad that the partnership working between the council and DCLT will result in a valuable resource for these deserving people and their families.”

From May 1 all War Pensioner and Armed Forces Compensation Scheme members will be offered a three month complimentary membership to Choose Fitness, DCLT’s membership package.

To be eligible for the discounts the serving or retired member of the Armed forces must produce proof of service (Proof can be: A valid Armed Forces ID card or discharge document (stating the name, address and service details) or a copy of the Veterans badge letter or a current Defence Discount Service card.
