5. Obaidullah Omari: Jailed for 19 years
Between 2003 and 2004, Obaidullah Omari targeted two girls aged between 13 and 14 at the time. During a two-week trial at Sheffield Crown Court, jurors heard how Omari, who was in his 20s at the time, gave the girls alcohol and drugs before abusing them. Omari raped the first girl multiple times at two different locations – his house in Eastwood and in his car – and raped the second girl on one occasion. A trial at Sheffield Crown Court heard how Obaidullah Omari, 46, from Sheffield, targeted two girls who were aged between 13 and 14 at the time of their abuse. Decades later and the victims came forward to Operation Stovewood, the National Crime Agency’s (NCA) large-scale investigation into allegations of abuse in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013. Jurors found Omari guilty of three counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault. 6. Garon Nunn: Jailed for four years
Garon Nunn was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court this week after being found guilty of two counts of sexual assault and one count of engaging in sexual activity in front of someone under the age of 18 after a trial in August. Prosecutors told the court how in 2022, the 43-year-old of Lopham Street, Burngreave, Sheffield, groped a teenager without consent and performed a lewd act in front of her. At the sentencing hearing, Nunn’s victim bravely appeared and had a statement read out by the prosecuting barrister on her behalf outlining how the experience had impacted her life. She explained how since the event she had felt ‘constant anxiety’ and lives in constant fear that her attacker ‘may simply appear’ whenever she is in Sheffield. “I no longer feel as free and happy as I used to,” the statement continued. The prosecutor revealed Nunn has previous convictions on his criminal record for false imprisonment and sexual assault. “The record speaks for itself,” the prosecutor added. “He had become a pest.” Nunn was sentenced to four years, with an additional two years on licence. He was also handed a 15-year sexual prevention order prohibiting from having unsupervised contact with any female under the age of 18 and restrictions when using devices that can access the internet. A restraining order was also put in place for 15 years. | SYP

7. Luke Anderson: Jailed for 18 years
A man has been jailed for 18 years after two women bravely spoke out about sexual abuse - one of whom has waived her right to anonymity. Emma Clarke, aged 34, came forward in 2021 to report she had been raped by Luke Anderson in 2015. She has now waived her right to lifelong anonymity to talk about her ordeal. She said: "I hope my story and my voice can help towards stopping the stigma related to survivors of sexual abuse." 8. Ben Johnson: Jailed 15 years
The girl Ben Johnson preyed upon, whilst wearing gloves and a balaclava bearing a crossbones, managed to fight him off, and escape before he was able to enact his plan, Sheffield Crown Court heard. Jailing Johnson, Judge Peter Hampton described the attack as “every woman and girl’s worst nightmare.” Johnson was not known to the girl, and attacked her as she was walking along a wooded area behind Deerlands Avenue in Parson Cross, known locally as the “Tongue Gutter” area, in the “middle of the day.” A hearing held on September 15, 2025 heard how Johnson, aged 38, carried out an almost identical attack on another teenage girl in the exact same wooded area, resulting in an attempted rape conviction and three-year prison sentence, in 2015. The court heard that Johnson emerged from the treeline, exposing himself and committing a lewd act. The schoolgirl subsequently began walking quicker in a bid to leave the area but Johnson “pursued” her, before “grabbing her from behind” and sexually assaulting her, said Zaiban Alam, prosecuting. He was found guilty of the latest crimes after a trial. Judge Hampton said: “You dragged her into the bushes sexually touching her with yourself exposed…it’s unsurprising that the jury convicted you of attempted rape. You were attempting to rape her. “It only remained an attempt because you picked the wrong girl. She was incredibly brave and fought you off." Judge Hampton jailed Johnson for 15 years, and handed him a five-year extended licence period after deeming him to be a dangerous offender, bringing his total sentence to one of 20 years. | SYP
