Sixth form college success as figures show how Doncaster post 16 students performed in 2019

New College Doncaster was ranked as the fourth best sixth form college in the country for student achievement in figures released by the Department for Education’s Education and Skills Funding Agency, with an achievement rate of 92 per cent. The list included 82 similar colleges.

The Auckley based college, which opened in September 2017, posted its first full set of results in 2019 and achieved an overall A-Level pass rate of 99 per cent and BTEC pass rate of 100 per cent.

Achievement rates indicate the proportion of students that both fully complete and pass their courses. They do not indicate the grades that the pupil has passed the exams at.

Officials at New Collaborative Learning Trust, which runs the college, said the education achievement rates are a key indicator of success for both the DfE and Ofsted.

Brendon Fletcher, principal, said “We are delighted that this data positions New College Doncaster as one of the strongest national performers, as well as a centre of excellence in the Doncaster area. My thanks go to our talented team of staff and students who have worked so hard for this success.”

Top performing college for the overall achievement rate was Callywith College in Cornwall, ahead of Worcester Sixth Form College, and New College Pontefract.

Doncaster also appeared to have performed well as a whole, according to figures broken down by local authority, with the second highest overall pass rate in South Yorkshire and comparing well with other neighbouring areas.

Across Doncaster as a whole, for all institutions, for 16 to 18 year olds, the overall achievement rate for all courses was listed as 84.2.

That compared in South Yorkshire with 86.2 in Barnsley, 81.1 in Rotherham, and 77.8 in Sheffield.

Neighbouring North Lincolnshire 87.8 and Bassetlaw was 81.9.

Students at New College have been drawn from 26 different schools including Hayfield; Hungerhill; McAuley; Armthorpe; Outwood Danum; Ridgewood; Sir Thomas Wharton; Hall Cross; Ash Hill; South Axholme; Balby Carr; Outwood Adwick; Hill House; Rossington All Saints;Serlby Park; Trinity; de Warenne; Don Valley; Worksop College; and Mexborough;
