Grand Tour de Crowle to rival Tour de France

To encourage people to take up cycling, the ‘Grand Tour de Crowle’ will take place on July 12, with three separate rides throughout the morning.

The flavour of France will extend to traditional food and drink in the Market Place and at Crowle Methodist Church Hall.

Groups of no more than 20 riders at a time will cycle the outskirts of Crowle taking in sights of local moorland before returning to the Market place.

Ride leader Alan Rayment said: “Join us in a free bike ride whether you’re just starting out or looking to improve your riding confidence.

“With a local social ride you will be in good compay as you will be guided by British Cycling trained ride leaders. If you haven’t used your bike for a while, we can check it over for you.”

The three rides begin at 9.30am, 10.30am and 11.30am from Crowle Community Hall.

To take part, bikers need to register beforehand at: www.goskyride.com/SkyRideLocal or this can be done on the day at the Community Hall.

The actual Tour de France will not pass through North Lincolnshire but MP Andrew Percy said he hoped the area will still benefit as the route begins in Leeds on July 5 before passing through the Yorkshire Dales and finishing in Harrogate. In stage two, on July 6, it will begin in York and finish in Sheffield, and the third stage, on July 7, will start in Cambridge and finish in the Mall.
