As the new season goes ever closer, we’ve put together this list of Rovers’ best players in recent years.
Things may be uncertain in DN4, following a catastrophic relegation, but let’s reminisce about the good times – and the players that made them – for now.
It’s worth mentioning this list will be based off performances solely in the past ten years – therefore, Billy Sharp and Richie Wellens both sadly miss out.

9. 3. Tommy Rowe
One of two players on this list still at the club, Rowe is a bit of a throwback - he's never afraid to take a risk and the Rovers faithful love him for it. The shining light through the darkness of last season, Tommy Rowe is a wonderfully talented player. Photo: Daniel L Smith
One of Rovers' best midfielders since the turn of the millenium, Ben Whiteman was unplayable during his last season at the club. A goalscorer, a creator and a leader, he had everything you would want in a central player and more. Photo: George Wood
Who else? He's arguably the most iconic Rovers player of all time and for good reason. He spent 15 years with Doncaster, scoring 67 goals - many of which were pivotal. A joy to watch and marvel over - there aren't many players in the football league that he didn't nutmeg. Photo: Lynne Cameron
